Replacing Bushings: Assembly
- Position lower split bushing on steering shaft. Below split bushing, position an old bushing which has been turned down 08" (2 mm) in diameter. Insert lower bushing by pulling steering shaft upward.
- Push shaft back slightly to remove used bushing. Using a sleeve, replace upper bushing. Install snap ring. Coat bushings with grease and drive in new lower bushing using a sleeve.
- Place new upper bushing on shaft. Slide shaft into column and center it in lower bushing. Insert shaft lower end in universal joint. Align slot with shaft flat.
- Install key bolt. Drive in upper bushing using a sleeve. Install snap ring.
