Replacing Control Unit For Steering Column Adjustment

Voltage drop
- Risk of irreparable damage to control unit
- Risk of damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Programming/coding in the control unit is aborted
- Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming/coding
→ Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.
→ Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.
→ Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least > Current 90 A to the vehicle battery.
Information
The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester .
- Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
- Select the vehicle type if required.
- Select Front-end electronics control unit in the overview . Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
- Coding/programming must be selected.
- Automatic coding must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- The Tester displays the message: Coding successful.
- Maintenance/repairs must now be selected.
- Teach steering column adjustment must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- Read the warnings and instructions on the Tester. Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start. Perform procedure according to menu guidance.
- Read out the fault memory , correct faults that are stored if necessary and clear the fault memory.
- Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
