Programming Central Computer Data Update

NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Risk of irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Risk of damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Coding in the control unit is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming 

    → Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

    → Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.

    → Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A to the vehicle battery.

Information 

Different text may be displayed with higher software versions.

  1. Insert SD card or USB stick containing the vehicle-specific software data in the PCM.
  2. Press the CAR and MEDIA buttons on the PCM for 3 seconds.
  3. The SWDL  menu appears. Select the SWDL/Software update  menu by pressing the left rotary knob.

  4. SD1  or - if available - USB  must be selected and activated.

    Info:  No update is possible with SD2  .

  5. Select Standard.

  7. Select Start update  again in the next menu.

  8. The PCM starts again and the screen is black. The individual components and/or modules are then updated.

    Restarting

  9. The update progress  is shown as a percentage for each module.

    Time required for the update: approx. 30 min.

    The PCM is restarted several times during the update.

    The PCM screen remains black for up to 3 minutes while restarting.

  10. If there is no MOST ring  installed in the vehicle, Continue update  must be selected.

  11. After the update, the updated components will be marked OK.  Press Continue.

  13. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it.
  14. Select the vehicle type if required.
  15. Select the PCM  control unit in the overview. Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL) ?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  16. Maintenance/repairs  must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
  17. Update confirmation  must be selected. Press F8 to continue.
  18. The backup documentation process is performed.
  19. The system is rebooted.

    After the restart, the update is finished.

  20. Switch back to the overview. 
  21. Switch to Coding/programming  and select Automatic coding.  Then press F12.
  22. Follow the instructions on the Tester.
  23. Remove SD card or USB stick from the PCM.
  24. Read out all fault memories  and erase them if necessary.
  25. Exit the diagnostic application. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
  26. Perform a function test on the PCM.
