Programming Data Update On Central Computer
NOTIFICATION
Voltage drop
- Irreparable damage to control unit
- Damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Control unit programming/coding is aborted
- Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming
- Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.
- Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.
- Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A to the vehicle battery.
Information
The procedure described here must only be used if:
- There is a Technical Information (TI) or Symptom-based repair instructions (SY) relating to the customer complaint
- The central computer was replaced.
- The vehicle is assigned to a campaign that involves carrying out a corresponding software update
The programming code and the approved software part number can be found in the specified documents.
Damage to the control unit cannot be ruled out if the software is used by other vehicles.

The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester.
- Insert SD card containing the vehicle-specific software data into the SD card slot (SD 1) on the central computer.

Insert USB stick containing the vehicle-specific software data into the USB slot (USB 1) on the centre console.
- Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
- Place original remote control (hand-held transmitter) in emergency start tray.
Emergency start tray
- Select the vehicle type if necessary.
- Select the PCM control unit in the overview. Press F1 2 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
- Select Maintenance/repairs.
- Select Install software update.
- 7.1 Read and follow the instructions and information on the Tester.
- 7.2 Perform software update according to menu guidance.
- If fitted: Code CD/DVD autochanger.
- 8.1 Select CD/DVD autochanger.
- 8.2 Select Coding/programming.
- 8.3 Select Automatic coding. Press F12 to continue.
- If fitted: Code the amplifier.
- 9.1 Select Amplifier.
- 9.2 Select Coding/programming.
- 9.3 Select Automatic coding. Press F12 to continue.
- Read out the fault memory, correct faults that are stored if necessary and clear the fault memory.
- Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
- Remove SD card from the SD card slot.
