Programming Control Unit For Electric Steering Column Lock
- Irreparable damage to control unit
- Damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Control unit programming/coding is aborted
- Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding
→ Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.
→ Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.
→ Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A to the vehicle battery.

The > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3 instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text or additions may appear in > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3.
Information
All remote controls (keys) are required for teaching a DME, front-end electronics (front BCM), rear-end electronics (rear BCM), electronic steering lock (ELV) control unit for example, or for teaching remote controls (keys).
Remote controls (keys) that are not taught during this procedure will no longer be recognized by the vehicle.
- Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
- Place original remote control (hand-held transmitter) in emergency start tray.

- Select the vehicle type if required.
- Select the Steering column lock control unit in the overview. Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
- Coding/programming must be selected.
- Automatic coding must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- The message "Coding was completed successfully" appears. Press F12 to continue.
- Go back to the overview. Press F11 to continue.
- In the overview , press F7 to switch to the Additional menu
- Engine immobilizer start-up must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- Follow the instructions on the Tester.
- Enter the PPN user name and password. Press F12 to continue.
- The Tester displays the message: Login was successful. Press F12 to continue.
- Enter the repair order number. Press F12 to continue.
- Check the chassis number. Change it if necessary. Press F12 to continue.
- Allow the Tester to run the procedure. Press F12 to continue.
- Read out the fault memory and delete any fault entries.
- Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
- Lock, open and start the vehicle using all remote controls.
