TIMING CHAIN COVER REPAIRS

TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN

Reference Number(s): 1533 - WTY Timing Chain Cover Repairs (2000.2), Date of Issue:  July 13, 2022
PORSCHE: Cayenne, Panamera (2011 - 2017), Macan (2015-2018)

INFORMATION

If an oil leak is identified from the timing chain cover and it has been found that any part on the timing cover has failed, then the engine must be removed and the entire timing chain cover resealed per Workshop literature WM 153319.

Documentation Requirements

G14711441

Active leak #1 Overview of the engine showing an active oil leak with oil droplets forming.

G14711442

A picture showing the location and source of the oil leak.

G14711443

A picture of the location and source of oil leak with engine clearly removed is required

G14711444

A picture showing the engine on the stand with all necessary parts removed per the Workshop literature WM 153319 and labor operations 15331940 (for Macans) and 15331990 (for Cayennes). Parts that should be removed include the transmission, exhaust manifold, cylinder head covers, turbochargers, oil guide housing, and the oil pan.

G14711445

This picture is not acceptable documentation. The picture shows the repair was performed improperly because the timing chain cover was removed without performing the work per the Workshop Manual. Among other components, the oil guide housing (1), oil pan (2), turbocharger (3), and transmission (4) were not removed and the engine was not mounted to the assembly support as described in WM 153319.

Parts Note

G14711446

This image shows the high pressure fuel lines that have to be removed before the cylinder head covers can be removed.

Per the workshop manual for Macan S, Macan GTS, Macan Turbo, and Cayenne S, the high pressure fuel lines must only be used once and must be replaced after removing or loosening union nuts. Please ensure that new fuel lines are installed on Macan S, Macan GTS, Macan Turbo, and Cayenne S vehicles when per forming the timing chain cover reseal.

For the Cayenne GTS, the workshop manual states that the fuel lines must not be bent and, if they are, then bent fuel lines must be replaced. Please ensure that the fuel lines are inspected thoroughly before they are reused and replaced if bent.
