Replacing Occupant Detection Control Unit

→ Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
→ Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.
→ Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least → Nominal value: 40 A to the vehicle battery.
If occupant classification components (installed for country equipment USA/Canada) must be replaced, the repair kit comprising padding with affixed mat for occupant classification system and occupant classification control unit must always be replaced as a complete unit.
The spare parts are contained in a repair kit (comprising padding with affixed mat for occupant classification system -1-and occupant classification control unit -2-), which must always be replaced as a complete unit.

A mixed installation , e.g. "old" padding and "new" control unit, is not permitted.
The padding with affixed mat for occupant classification system and the occupant classification control unit are calibrated together by the manufacturer and must therefore only be replaced as a complete unit.
The occupant classification control unit must not be coded.
The mat for the occupant classification system must not be removed from the foam part.
The PIWIS Tester 3 9900 instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

- Switch off ignition and replace control unit → 696819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING OCCUPANT DETECTION CONTROL UNIT
- Connect the PIWIS Tester to the vehicle and start the Tester. Switch on ignition.
- Select the vehicle type under Diagnostics.
- Select Airbag control unit in the overview.
- Maintenance and repairs must now be selected.
- Select Calibrate occupant detection and press F12 to continue.
- Follow the instructions on the Tester and press F12 to continue.
- Start the function by pressing F8
- The message "Function has been executed" appears. Press F11 to go back.
- Read out the fault memory and erase it if necessary.
- Perform function test: Switch the ignition off and then on again. The airbag warning light in the instrument cluster comes on and must go off again after a few seconds.
