Programming Gateway Control Unit

Voltage drop
- Risk of irreparable damage to control unit
- Risk of damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Coding in the control unit is aborted
- Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming
- Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
- Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.
- Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A to the vehicle battery.

The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester.
- Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
- Select the vehicle type if required.
- Select the Gateway control unit in the overview. Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
- Maintenance/repairs must now be selected.
- Control unit replacement must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- Read data must be selected. Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
- Data is read out. Press F12 to continue.
- Switch off ignition. Replace control unit.
- Switch on ignition. Change to the Write data menu (procedure described above), press F12 and then press F8 to start. The data that was read out is loaded.
- The System Tester displays the message: Data has been written. Press F12 to continue.
- In the overview,
press F7 to switch to the Additional menu. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears.
Press F11 to continue.
- Component protection start-up must now be selected. Follow instructions and procedure. Press F12 to continue.
- Enter the PPN user name and password. Press F12 to continue.
- Allow the Tester to run the procedure.
- Check the chassis number. Enter the order number. Press F12 to continue.
- Allow the Tester to run the procedure. Press F12 to continue.
- The Component protection start-up message appears. Press F12 to continue.
- Once the teaching process is completed successfully, the status is displayed: e.g. Gateway: Component protection taught e.g. PCM 4.0: Component protection taught and so on...
Press F12 to continue.
- The message "Component protection start-up was successful" appears. Press F12 to continue.
- Go back to the overview. Press F12 to continue.
- Select the Gateway control unit in the overview. Press F12 to continue.
- Coding/programming must be selected.
- Automatic coding must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- The Tester displays the message: Coding successful.
- Maintenance/repairs must now be selected.
- Replace battery must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- Read and follow the instructions on the Tester. Enter parameters for the vehicle battery. Press F8 to confirm. Press F12 to continue.
- Read out the fault memory. Clear it if necessary.
- Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
