DIAGNOSIS/TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURE

Work instruction Display OK If not OK
1 If fault codes 0771 and 0779 (0562) are present, check ground supply to 'pin 7' of instrument cluster plug A Go to Step 2 Repair/replace wiring harness.
→ End
2 Check wiring between fuel level sensor 2 (left) and instrument cluster for short circuit to B+:
  • Switch off ignition
  • Pull plug A off instrument cluster
  • Pull plug off fuel level sensor 2 (left)
  • Switch on ignition
  • Measure voltage between 'pin 4' of instrument cluster plug A and ground
< 0.3 V
Go to Step 3
Repair/replace wiring harness.
→ End
3 Check wiring between fuel level sensor 2 (left) and instrument cluster for short circuit to ground:
  • Switch off ignition
  • Measure resistance between 'pin 4' of instrument cluster plug A and ground
∞ Ω
Go to Step 4
Repair/replace wiring harness.
→ End
4 Check wiring between fuel level sensor 2 (left) and instrument cluster for open circuit:
  • Measure resistance between 'pin 4' of instrument cluster plug B and 'pin 2' of fuel level sensor 2 (left)
< 5 Ω
Go to Step 5
Repair/replace wiring harness.
→ End
5 Replace fuel level sensor 2 (left). → End Go to Step 6
6 Replace instrument cluster. → End
