OBD (II) - P0354 - P1096: P0357: Diagnosis/troubleshooting: Notes
NOTE:
- The bar ignition module cannot be tested as it is an active component.
- If a fault occurs in the positive or ground supply, the bar ignition module switches the input of the signal wire (pin 4) to high resistance in order to forward the fault to the DME control module. The DME control module then enters the fault in the fault memory. The "open circuit" fault can have a variety of causes. It is strongly recommended, therefore, that troubleshooting is performed in accordance with the following table.
- If a faulty ignition bar module is diagnosed, the connection to the engine ground must be checked before a replacement is made (test step 9a or 1a), as otherwise a faulty engine ground connection will damage the new ignition bar module again.
CAUTION:
Risk of damage to bar ignition modules! Removed ignition bar modules must be disconnected! Ignition bar modules that are still connected will be damaged when the starter is actuated because of the long spark gap.

NOTE:
If connector A is disconnected from the DME control module and the ignition is or was switched on, the 'DME Control Module TIMEOUT' fault is recorded in many control modules.
NOTE:
If control module connector A was disconnected from the DME in the course of troubleshooting or if the voltage supply was interrupted elsewhere (battery, fuse), the throttle adjusting unit must be adapted!
