Boost Pressure Sensor

NOTE:

If connector A is disconnected from the DME control module and the ignition is or was switched on, the 'DME Control Module TIMEOUT' fault is recorded in many control modules.

NOTE:
  • In the case of the turbo engine, the intake air temperature sensor is integrated into the boost pressure sensor.
  • In the naturally aspirated engine, the intake air temperature sensor is integrated into the MAF sensor 1 (right).
NOTE:

Turbo only: The wiring for DME control module connector A, pin 26, and boost pressure sensor connector, pin 2, is routed via the K plug connection, pin 8.

NOTE:
  • Naturally aspirated engines only: In Step 7, the MAF sensor must not be removed, but only replaced complete with the tubular piece.
  • This diagonal exchange is possible because both the MAF sensors (including tubular piece) are identical, but the intake air temperature sensor is only used on the right.
WORK INSTRUCTION CHART

Work instruction Display OK If not OK
1 Is a turbo engine installed? Turbo engine
Go to step 2
Naturally aspirated engine
Go to step 6
2 Check intake air temperature sensor in the boost pressure sensor
  • Remove connector from boost pressure sensor
  • Visual inspection
  • Measure resistance between pins 1 and 2 of boost pressure sensor
2,250 Ω - 2,560 Ω at 20°C
Go to step 3
Intake air temperature sensor faulty
=> Replace boost pressure sensor
→ End
3 Check signal wire for continuity
  • Remove connector A from DME control module
  • Visual inspection
  • Measure resistance between DME control module connector A, pin 26, and boost pressure sensor connector, pin 2
< 2 Ω
Go to step 4
Repair wiring, eliminate cause of damage if necessary
→ End
4 Check ground wire for open circuit
  • Remove connector B from DME control module
  • Visual inspection
  • Measure resistance between DME control module connector B, pin 108, and boost pressure sensor connector, pin 1
< 2 Ω
Go to step 5
Repair wiring, eliminate cause of damage if necessary
→ End
5 Check ground wire for short circuit to B+
  • Switch on the ignition
  • Measure voltage between DME control module connector B, pin 108, and ground
  • Switch off ignition
0 V
Go to step 11
Repair wiring, eliminate cause of damage if necessary
→ End
6 Check MAF sensor
  • Remove connector of MAF sensor.
  • Visual inspection
  • Measure resistance between MAF sensor, pins 1 and 3
2,250 Ω - 2,560 Ω at 20°C
Go to step 8
Intake air temperature sensor faulty
Go to step 7
7 Exchange MAF sensors in diagonal sequence
  • Remove connectors from MAF sensor 2 (left)
  • Visual inspection
  • Measure resistance between MAF sensor 2 (left), pins 1 and 3
  • Exchange the right MAF sensor including tubular piece with the left MAF sensor including tubular piece
2,250 Ω - 2,560 Ω at 20°C
=> Make a note that the right MAF sensor has been exchanged with the left MAF sensor
→ End
Intake air temperature sensor in left MAF sensor is also faulty
=> Replace one or both faulty MAF sensors.
If only one MAF sensor is replaced, make sure that the new MAF sensor becomes the first sensor and is installed on the right.
Clearly identify the other MAF sensor with the faulty intake air temperature sensor and install on the left.
→ End
8 Check signal wire for open circuit
  • Remove connector A from DME control module
  • Visual inspection
  • Measure resistance between DME control module connector A, pin 26 and MAF sensor 1 connector, pin 1
< 2 Ω
Go to step 9
Repair wiring, eliminate cause of damage if necessary
→ End
9 Check ground wire for open circuit
  • Measure resistance between DME control module connector A, pin 27, and boost pressure sensor connector, pin 3
< 2 Ω
Go to step 10
Repair wiring, eliminate cause of damage if necessary
→ End
10 Check ground wire for short circuit to B+
  • Switch on the ignition
  • Measure voltage between DME control module connector A, pin 27 and ground
  • Switch off ignition
0 V
Go to step 11
Repair wiring, eliminate cause of damage if necessary
→ End
11 Check whether additional faults have been recorded Go to step 12 Work through fault in accordance with instructions
→ End
12 Replace DME control module To do this, you must observe the notes in the introduction on any potential causes of faults!
