NOTE:

In the case of this DTC, the intake air system is monitored between the MAF sensors and the throttle.

NOTE:

If connector A is disconnected from the DME control module and the ignition is or was switched on, the 'DME Control Module TIMEOUT' fault is recorded in many control modules.

NOTE:

If control module connector A was disconnected from the DME in the course of troubleshooting or if the voltage supply was interrupted elsewhere (battery, fuse), the throttle adjusting unit must be adapted!

NOTE:

The pressure sensor for the ambient air pressure is installed in the engine control module.

NOTE:

Both MAF sensors must be checked.

WORK INSTRUCTION CHART

Work instruction Display OK If not OK
1 Check actual values
  • Using the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588, read out the adaption values for 'RKAT' and 'FRAU' under "Actual values" and evaluate the deviation
The adaption is clearly in the positive range
Go to step 2
The adaption is clearly in the negative range
Go to step 4
The adaption values are in order
Go to step 6
2 The adaption is clearly in the positive range Check function of the MAF sensor
  • Ignition switched on
  • All 'loads' switched off

Measure signal voltage between DME control module connector:
  • A pin 29 (MAF sensor 1 - right) and ground
  • B pin 109 (MAF sensor 2 - left) and ground
  • Switch off ignition
Voltage between 0.9 V and 1.1 V
Go to step 3
Replace faulty MAF sensor(s)
→ End
3
  • Check intake air system between the MAF sensors and the throttle for leaks
Continue troubleshooting, refer to FUEL SYSTEM, ELECTRONIC INJECTION article
→ End
4 The adaption is clearly in the negative range Check function of the MAF sensor
  • Ignition switched on
  • All 'loads' switched off

Measure signal voltage between DME control module connector:
  • A pin 29 (MAF sensor 1 - right) and ground
  • B pin 109 (MAF sensor 2 - left) and ground
  • Switch off ignition
Voltage between 0.9 V and 1.1 V
Go to step 5
Replace faulty MAF sensor(s)
→ End
5
  • Check fuel system for correct fuel pressure and mechanically faulty injection valves
→ End
6a The adaption values are in order Throttle adjusting unit mechanically in order
Go to step 7
Throttle adjusting unit mechanically faulty
=> Replace throttle adjusting unit
→ End
6b
  • Check throttle adjusting unit for adhesive soiling
Throttle adjusting unit in order
Go to step 7
Clean throttle adjusting unit and check engine for oil consumption; if necessary, eliminate the cause of damage
→ End
7 Check intake air temperature sensor Turbo engine
Go to step 7a
Naturally-aspirated engine
Go to step 7b
7a
  • Remove connector from boost pressure sensor
  • Visual inspection
  • Measure resistance between pins 1 and 2 of boost pressure sensor
1.9 KΩ - 2.1 KΩ at 20°C
Go to step 8
Boost pressure sensor faulty
=> Replace boost pressure sensor
→ End
7b
  • Remove connectors from MAF sensor 1 (right)
  • Visual inspection
  • Measure resistance between MAF sensor 1, pins 1 and 3
2,250 Ω - 2,560 Ω at 20°C
Go to step 9
Intake air temperature sensor faulty
=> Substitute the right MAF sensor for the left MAF sensor and repeat the test.
If this sensor is also faulty, both MAF sensors should be replaced.
If only one MAF sensor is replaced, please make sure that the new MAF sensor is installed on the right.
Clearly identify the other MAF sensor with the faulty intake air temperature sensor.
→ End
8   Check ambient pressure sensor
  • With the Porsche System Tester II No. 9588, read out the actual value of the ambient pressure sensor
  • Compare this value with the display value of a calibrated barometer
The values coincide approximately
→ End
The deviation between the values of the ambient pressure sensor and the barometer is too great
Go to step 9
9 Replace DME control module To do this, you must observe the notes in the introduction on any potential causes of faults!
