Fault code 2588: Diagnosis/troubleshooting

WARNING:

Risk of injury and damage when retracting or extending the trailer coupling (trailer hitch).

Make sure that no persons, animals or obstacles are in the movement range.
Never retract the trailer hitch if, for example, bicycle racks or other parts are fitted.

DIAGNOSIS/TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURE

1	Check fault memory in the trailer hitch control module for further faults		Further faults present => Correct the faults	Go to Step 2
2	Check all wiring in the pivoting motor for open circuits	Switch off ignition Pull off plug A on trailer hitch control module Measure resistance between pins 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 on the plug of the pivoting motor and pins 1,8,11,12 and 14 on plug A of the trailer hitch control module	< 5 Ω	Repair wire or replace wiring harness → End
3	Check all leads of pivoting motor for short circuit to B+	Measure voltage between pins 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 on pivoting motor plug and ground	< 0.3 V	Repair wire or replace wiring harness → End
4	Check all leads of pivoting motor for short circuit to ground	Measure resistance between pins 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 on pivoting motor plug and ground	< 5 Ω	Repair wire or replace wiring harness → End
5	Replace trailer hitch control module		→ End
