The ABS System has 3 relays:

The ABS relay has an overvoltage protection from a Zener diode. This Zener diode prevents voltage spikes over 22 volts. This diode will prevent an increase in voltage from damaging the control unit.

The solenoid relay closes when ABS control unit receives voltage from the alternator. This causes ground connection of relay terminal No. 85 by the control unit. The relay supplies battery power to solenoid valve coils. If ABS begins to regulate, control unit provides a ground to the solenoid coil of the wheel with regulated pressure.

The pressure pump relay closes when ground is provided through the control unit. The solenoid relay and pressure pump relay are located under the cover of the hydraulic control unit. The pump relay is the larger of the two.
