Steering Column Assembly: Installation

To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten attaching shear bolts until heads break off.

1. Lubricate rubber bearing. Slide bearing support .8" (20 mm) onto casing tube. Install column switch on casing tube. Finger tighten bolts.
2. Slide casing tube with bearing support and column switch onto steering column. Install bearing support screws. Finger tighten casing tube shear bolts.
3. Drive spacer sleeve on steering column until sleeve is 1.67" (42.5 mm) from steering column face. Tighten column switch Allen bolt and bearing support mounting screws.
4. Mount lower shaft on steering gear. Make sure shaft is free of tension. Reposition casing tube if needed. Clearance between steering wheel and column should be .08-.16" (2-4 mm). Tighten shear bolts until heads break off.
