Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. 1:  The Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prompts the technician to complete some basic checks and store the Freeze Frame data on the scan tool, if applicable. This creates an electronic copy of the data taken when the fault occurred. The information is then stored in the scan tool for later reference.
  2. 2:  This step determines if DTC P0222 is the result of a hard failure or an intermittent condition.
  3. 6:  When the 5-volt reference is jumpered to the TP sensor 2 input circuit, the scan tool parameter should read at least 4.8 volts.
DTC P0222

Step Action Values Yes No

- Go to Step 4  Go to Diagnostic Aids
4 Is a DTC P0452 also set? - Go to Step 8  Go to Step 5
5
  1. Disconnect the throttle actuator control (TAC) module electrical connector.
  2. Measure the voltage of the 5-volt reference circuit of the throttle position (TP) sensor at the harness connector with a DMM.
Is the reference circuit voltage within the specified value?
4.9-5.1 V Go to Step 6  Go to Step 7
  1. Jump the 5-volt reference circuit and the TP sensor input circuit together at the TAC module harness connector.
  2. Observe the TP sensor on the scan tool.
Is the TP sensor 2 voltage more than the specified value?
4.8 V Go to Step 10  Go to Step 9
7 Repair the open in the 5-volt reference circuit between SP108 and the TAC module. Refer to Wiring Repairs .
Did you find and correct a condition?
- Go to Step 14  -
8
  1. Test for an open in the 5-volt reference circuit between SP108 and the powertrain control module (PCM).
  2. Repair as necessary. Refer to Wiring Repairs .
Did you find and correct a condition?
- Go to Step 14  Go to Step 12
9
  1. Test the TP sensor 2 input circuit for an open or a short to ground.
  2. Repair as necessary. Refer to Wiring Repairs .
Did you find and correct a condition?
- Go to Step 14  Go to Step 12
10
  1. Test for an intermittent or a poor electrical connection at the TAC module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .
  2. Repair as necessary. Refer to Wiring Repairs and Connector Repairs .
