Installation Procedure

  1. If replacing the steering column, duplicate the scribed mark placed on the old column shaft.

  3. Position the steering column into the vehicle.
  4. Hand start the steering column pivot bolt.
  5. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  6. Hand start the steering column mounting bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the steering column pivot bolt and mounting bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  8. Slide the intermediate shaft onto the steering column while aligning the previously scribed marks.
  9. If the steering column to intermediate shaft was not previously scribed, refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .

  11. Install a new intermediate shaft pinch bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 34 N.m (25 lb ft).

  13. Connect the EPS electrical connectors to the EPS controller.
  14. Install the lock housing and multifunction lever bracket. Refer to Multifunction Turn Signal Switch Housing Replacement .

  16. Attach the park lock cable to the ignition module.

  18. Connect the ignition housing electrical connectors.

  20. Snap the knee bolster into position and install fasteners.
  21. Install the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement .
  22. Install the column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .
  23. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  24. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  25. Perform the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) setup procedure. Refer to Power Steering Control Module Programming and Setup .
