Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Pontiac Torrent and 2008 Chevrolet Equinox. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The infrared transmitter module contains infrared transmitters for the wireless headphones and the infrared receiver for the video system remote control. The infrared transmitter module processes the signal from the remote devices and sends the requests to the radio via the remote infrared signal circuits. If the display is in the closed position, the infrared signals will not be available for the operation of the wireless headphones and the remote control.

IMPORTANT: Center the balance and fade adjustment on the radio. If adjustment of the fade and balance eliminates the concern, review the operation of the radio with the customer.
  1. Wireless headphones ON, verify the power indicator lamp on the wireless headphone illuminates.
    • If the power indicator lamp does not illuminate, replace the wireless headphone batteries. If the batteries are OK replace the wireless headphones.
  2. Ignition ON, rear entertainment ON. Set both wireless headphones to the proper channel to hear the rear entertainment. Adjust the volume up on both wireless headphones. Both wireless headphones should have clear audible sound.
    • If only one set of wireless headphones is faulty, replace the suspect wireless headphone set.
  3. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the infrared transmitter module.
  4. Test for less than 5 ohms between the ground circuit terminal 12 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  5. Ignition ON, rear entertainment system ON, test for B+ between the infrared transmitter module B+ circuit terminal 4 and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  6. Ignition ON, rear entertainment system ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the remote infrared audio signal circuit terminal 8 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  7. Ignition ON, rear entertainment system ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the remote infrared audio signal circuit terminal 16 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  8. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X3 harness connector at the radio.
  9. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the remote infrared audio signal circuit terminal 5 and ground.
    • If the test lamp illuminates, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage.
  10. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the remote infrared audio signal circuit terminal 13 and ground.
    • If the test lamp illuminates, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage.
  11. If all circuits test normal, replace the infrared transmitter module.
