Component Testing

IMS Switch

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the AT Inline 20-Way Connector.
  2. Connect the J44152 jumper harness to the transmission side of the 20-way connector.
  3. With the IMS switch in each of the following positions, test for less than 2.0 ohms of resistance between the signal circuit terminal 2 and the ground circuit terminal 4.
    • Park
    • Neutral
    • If greater than the specified range, test both circuits for an open/high resistance. If a circuit fault is found, replace the internal transmission harness. If the circuit tests normal, replace the IMS switch.
  4. With the IMS switch in each of the following positions, test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 2 and the ground circuit terminal 4.
    • Reverse
    • D
    • 3
    • 2
    • 1
    • If less than the specified range, test both circuits for a short to ground or a short to each other. If a circuit fault is found, replace the internal transmission harness. If the circuit tests normal, replace the IMS switch.

Clutch Start Switch

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the clutch start switch.
  2. With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the B+ terminal A and the signal terminal B.
    • If not the specified value, replace the clutch start switch.
  3. With the switch in the closed position, test for less than 2.0 ohms of resistance between the B+ terminal A and the signal terminal B.
    • If greater than the specified range, replace the clutch start switch.

CRANK Relay

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the CRANK relay.
  2. Test for 60-180 ohms of resistance between terminals 85 and 86.
    • If not within the specified range, replace the relay.
  3. Test for infinite resistance between the following terminals:
    • 30 and 86
    • 30 and 87
    • 30 and 85
    • 85 and 87
    • If not the specified value, replace the relay.
  4. Install a 20-amp fused jumper wire between relay terminal 85 and 12 volts. Install a jumper wire between relay terminal 86 and ground. Test for less than 2.0 ohms of resistance between terminals 30 and 87.
    • If greater than specified range, replace the relay.
