Installation Procedure
- Install the starter motor to the vehicle.
- Install the upper mounting bolt finger tight (1).
- Install the lower mounting bolt (2).
Tighten: Tighten the lower mounting bolt to 37 N.m (27 lb ft).
- Tighten the upper mounting bolt (1).
Tighten: Tighten the upper mounting bolt to 37 N.m (27 lb ft).
- Install the starter motor electrical connector to the solenoid.
- Install the positive battery cable and the retaining nut to the starter solenoid.
Tighten: Tighten the retaining nut to 9.8 N.m (84 lb in).
- Connect the negative (-) battery cable.
Tighten: Tighten the negative battery cable to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
NOTE:
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
