Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
  2. Set the tires in a straight-ahead position. Center the steering wheel.
  3. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  4. Remove the column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .
  5. Remove the SIR coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Replacement .

  6. Remove the knee bolster screws. Unsnap the knee bolster.
  7. Remove the multifunctional levers. Refer to Multifunction, Turn Signal Switch Replacement .
  8. Remove the ignition lock cylinder case. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Case Replacement .

  9. Remove the upper column attachment bolts.

  10. Remove the jacket attachment bolts.

    IMPORTANT: Do not strike or bump the exposed shaft.
  11. Remove the upper jacket.
