Component Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and 2006 Chevrolet Impala. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. With the key out of ignition and then with the key in the ACC position, measure for infinite resistance between the battery positive voltage and the off/run/crank voltage terminals of the ignition switch. Repeat the same measurement between ignition key resistor signal and off/run/crank voltage terminals of the ignition switch.
    • If less than infinite ohms, replace the ignition switch.
  2. With the key in ignition, in OFF position, measure for 0 ohms between the battery positive voltage and the off/run/crank voltage terminals at the ignition switch.
    • If over 0 ohms, replace the ignition switch.
  3. With the key in the RUN position, measure for 0 ohms between the ignition key resistor signal and the off/run/crank voltage terminals at the ignition switch.
    • If over 0 ohms, replace the ignition switch.
