Installation Procedure.

  1. Position the power steering cooler pipes/hoses (5) on the frame.
  2. Insert the retainers (3) and (4) in the frame.
  3. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Install the cooler pipes/hose (1) in the power steering rack.

    Tighten:  Tighten the power steering pipe/hose fitting to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

  5. Reconnect the cooler pipes/hose (2) to the remote reservoir.
  6. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (L26) or Drive Belt Replacement (L32) in Engine Mechanical - 5.3L.
  7. Install the right fender liner. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (L26) or Drive Belt Replacement (L32) in Body Front End.
  8. Fill the power steering reservoir with fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  9. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
