Installation Procedure
- Install the 6 transaxle to engine retaining bolts.
Tighten:
- Tighten the bolts (1) to 64 N.m (47 lb ft).
- Tighten the bolt (2) to 46 N.m (35 lb ft).
- Tighten the bolts (3) to 23 N.m (17 lb ft).
- Install the rear transaxle mounting bracket to the transaxle with the 3 bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 64 N.m (47 lb ft).
- Install the front transaxle mount to the transaxle with the 2 bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 64 N.m (47 lb ft).
- Install the transmission support with the 4 bolts on the vehicle.
Tighten:
- Tighten the bolts (1) to 39 N.m (29 lb ft).
- Tighten the bolt (2) to 52 N.m (38 lb ft).
- Install the front mount through bolt.
Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 52 N.m (38 lb ft).
- Install the rear transaxle mount to the transmission support.
- Install the 3 nuts and bolt.
Tighten: Tighten the bolt and 3 nuts to 52 N.m (38 lb ft).
- Install the rear transaxle mount through bolt.
Tighten: Tighten the bolt and nut to 87 N.m (64 lb ft).
- Install the left transaxle mounting bracket and 3 bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 52 N.m (38 lb ft).
- Install the left mount to the body.
Tighten: Tighten the 4 bolts to 52 N.m (38 lb ft).
- Install the left mount through bolt and nut.
Tighten: Tighten the through bolt and nut to 80 N.m (59 lb ft).
- Install the 6 torque converter bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Install the flywheel inspection cover
- Lower the jack from the transaxle.
- Install the starter assembly in the vehicle. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Engine Electrical.
- Install the left and right drive shafts. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Front in Wheel Drive Shafts.
- Install the exhaust pipe in the vehicle. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (LV6 Engine) or Catalytic Converter Replacement (LNK Engine) in Engine Exhaust.
- Install the front wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
- Install the drain plug with a new gasket.
Tighten: Tighten the drain plug to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).
- Install the left lower splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine - Left in Body Front End.
- Install the right lower splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine - Right in Body Front End.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the engine support fixture.
- Connect the transaxle oil cooler pipes to the transaxle.
Tighten: Tighten the oil cooler pipe nuts 35 N.m (25 lb ft).
- Install the oil filler tube with a new O-ring into the transaxle.
- Install the 2 bolts with the oil cooler pipe clamp to the transaxle assembly.
Tighten: Tighten the oil cooler pipe clamp bolts 6 N.m (49 lb in).
- Connect the shift cable to the transaxle, then install the nut.
Tighten: Tighten the nut to 12 N.m (9 lb ft).
- Connect the shift cable to the transaxle, then install the clip.
- Connect the shift cable to the cable bracket, then install the bracket bolt.
Tighten: Tighten the nut to 12 N.m (9 lb ft).
- Connect the 3 electrical connectors to the transaxle.
- Connect the oxygen sensor electrical connector. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Position 2 (FWD) or Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Position 2 (AWD) in Engine Controls - 1.8L (LV6).
- Connect the 2 wire harness brackets, then install the 2 bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (9 lb ft).
- Install the 2 bolts and ground cables to the transaxle.
Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (7 lb ft).
- Install the cruise control servo in the vehicle. Refer to Cruise Control Servo Replacement in Cruise Control.
- Install the battery tray and the 4 bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 13 N.m (9 lb ft).
- Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
- Install the air cleaner case assembly.
- Fill the transaxle with 3.1 L (3.25 qt) of AC Delco T-IV (GM P/N 88900925).
