Removal Procedure

    CAUTION: Refer to SIR Caution in Cautions and Notices.
    IMPORTANT: In the event deployment has occurred, inspect the steering wheel module coil wire for any sign of scorching, melting, or other damage due to excessive heat. If the coil is damaged, replace it.
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 .
  2. Place the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
  3. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  4. Remove the knee bolster from the instrument panel (I/P). Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement - Left in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  5. Remove the steering column trim covers from the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

  7. Release the 2 top locking tangs (2) on the steering wheel module coil (1) by lifting upward on the tangs (2) and pulling slightly outward on the steering wheel module coil (1).
  8. Release the 2 bottom locking tangs (2) and remove the steering wheel module coil (1).
