Installation Procedure

  1. Install the transmission side cover.
  2. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Hand start the transmission side cover lower bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the side cover bolts and stud to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Raise the engine with the engine support fixture.
  6. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  7. On vehicles equipped with the L61 engine, install the transmission mount. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement - Side .
  8. Install the frame. Refer to Frame Replacement (W/LX9) in Frame and Underbody.
  9. Install the power steering intermediate shaft and tie-rod ends. Refer to Power Steering Gear Replacement in Power Steering System.
  10. Install the wheel drive shaft to the transmission. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  11. Install the left lower control arm to the subframe and steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement in Front Suspension.
  12. Install the left front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Remove the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture in Engine Mechanical.

  16. Install the PNP switch. Refer to Park/Neutral Position (PNP) Switch Replacement .

  18. Install the PNP switch lever and nut.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut to 35 N.m (26 lb ft).

  20. Install the shift cable bracket.
  21. Connect the shift cable to the PNP switch.

  23. Install the battery tray assembly. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  24. Fill the transmission. Refer to Capacities - Approximate Fluid in Maintenance and Lubrication.
