Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Buick LaCrosse and 2005 Buick Allure. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the front floor console. Refer to Console Replacement - Front Floor in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  3. Remove the left knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement - Left in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  4. Place the transaxle shift control lever in the PARK position.
    5. IMPORTANT: Ensure the ignition key is in the RUN position. Do NOT attempt to proceed to the next step with the key in any other position.
  5. Turn the ignition key to the RUN position.

  6. Using a screwdriver, release the cable from the ignition switch inhibitor by depressing the cable latch (1).
  7. Remove the cable from the inhibitor housing.

  8. Remove the cable from the shift control lever by sliding the cable reward off the park lever pin.
  9. Remove the cable at the shift control-housing base.
  10. Remove the park/lock cable.
