Disabling Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: Refer to SIR Service Precautions .
  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  4. Open the hood and locate the underhood fuse center on right/passenger shock tower.

    IMPORTANT: With the SIR Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.
  6. Lift the cover for the underhood fuse center.
  7. Locate and remove the SIR fuse from the underhood fuse center.
  8. When disabling the right/passenger seat belt pretensioner perform step 8, if Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) needs disabling then use entire procedure.

  10. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the left/driver seat belt pretensioner connector (1) located under the driver seat.
  11. Disconnect the seat belt pretensioner-left connector from vehicle wiring harness connector (1).

  13. Remove the right rear sail panel. Refer to Sail Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  14. Remove the CPA from the right/passenger roof rail module connector (2).
  15. Disconnect the right roof rail module wiring harness yellow connector (2) from the right roof rail module (3).

  17. Remove the right/passenger sound insulator from the instrument panel (I/P) (3). Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  18. Remove the CPA from the I/P module yellow connector (1).
  19. Disconnect the I/P module yellow connector (1) from the vehicle harness yellow connector (2).

  21. Remove the left/driver sound insulator from the instrument panel (I/P) (2). Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  22. Remove the CPA from the steering wheel module coil yellow connector (1).
  23. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil yellow connector (1) from the vehicle harness yellow connector (3).

  25. Remove the CPA from the left/driver seat belt pretensioner connector (1) located under the driver seat.
  26. Disconnect the seat belt pretensioner-left connector from vehicle wiring harness connector (1).

  28. Remove the left rear sail panel. Refer to Sail Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  29. Remove the CPA from the left/driver roof rail module connector (2).
  30. Disconnect the left roof rail module wiring harness yellow connector (2) from the left roof rail module (3).
