Installation Procedure
- If the vehicle has AWD, install the heat shield to the pump.
- Install the rear bracket (4) and the bolt to the pump.
Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 37 N.m (27.3 lb ft).
- Place the pump in the power steering pump front bracket.
If the pump does not fit in the bracket, complete the following steps in order to increase the pump-to-bracket clearance:
- Move the pump to the side.
- Place a bar of steel on the pump side of a pump bracket bushing.
- Using a hammer, tap on the bar in order to move the bushing 2 mm (0.1 in).
- Place the bar on the pump side of the other pump bracket bushing.
- Using a hammer, tap on the bar in order to move the bushing 2 mm (0.1 in).
- Install the following components to the pump bracket:
- The pump
- The 2 bolts (5,6)
- The 2 nuts (7,8)
- Tighten the nuts and the bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the nuts and the bolts to 37 N.m (27.3 lb ft).
- Verify the pump bracket bushings are against the pump housing.
- Connect the PSP switch connector (3).
- Install the outlet pipe fitting (1) to the pump.
Tighten: Tighten the fitting to 41 N.m (30.2 lb ft).
- Install the outlet pipe clamp bolt (2).
Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 7.8 N.m (69.04 lb in).
- Install the pump inlet hose (10) to the pump.
- Install the hose clamp (9) to the pump inlet hose.
- Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical -1.8L (LV6) or to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical -1.8L (LNK).
- Install the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Fill the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
- Inspect the power steering system for fluid leaks. Repair as necessary.
- Install the right front engine splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine - Right in Body Front End.
