Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LA1) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LY7) in Engine Electrical.
  2. CAUTION: Refer to SIR Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.
  4. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .

  6. Remove the tilt lever close out plate.
  7. Remove the retaining screw from the lower steering column trim covers.
  8. Tilt the trim cover down and slide rearward in order to disengage the locking tabs. Remove the lower steering column trim covers.
  9. Remove the retaining screws from the upper steering column trim cover.

  11. Lift the trim cover in order to gain access to the lock cylinder access hole (1).

  13. Insert the Snap-On A173A bent-tip awl (1) or equivalent, with a 2.5 mm (3/32 in) tip, and 20 mm (3/4 in) in length, into the access hole of the.
  14. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to START.
  15. Use the bent tip in order to push down on the ignition lock cylinder retainer.
  16. Release the ignition lock cylinder to the RUN position.

  18. Remove the ignition lock cylinder from the lock cylinder case.
