Disabling Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and 2004 Chevrolet Impala. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition.
  3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  4. Remove the I/P fuse block cover.
    IMPORTANT: With the SIR Fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.
  5. Remove the SIR Fuse.

  7. Remove the LH insulator panel.
  8. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector located at the base of the steering column.
  9. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil connector.

  11. Remove the RH I/P access hole cover.
  12. Remove the CPA from the inflatable restraint I/P module connector, located at the RH side of the I/P.
  13. Disconnect the I/P module connector.

  15. Remove the CPA from the inflatable restraint side impact module - LF connector (1), located under the driver seat.
  16. Disconnect the side impact module - LF connector.
