Fuel Tank Draining

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Cadillac Seville and 2003 Cadillac DeVille. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Gasoline or gasoline vapors are highly flammable. A fire could occur if an ignition source is present. Never drain or store gasoline in an open container, due to the possibility of fire or explosion. Have a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher nearby.
CAUTION: Drain the fuel tank to at least 3/4 of a tank before removing the fuel sender retaining ring. Drain the fuel tank with a hose which has a 0.5" (13 mm) or smaller diameter in order to prevent the drain hose from getting stuck inside the fuel tank filler neck pipe check valve. Damage to the check valve may result.

Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Remove the fuel tank filler pipe cap. Drain the fuel through the fuel tank filler pipe by using a hand or air operated fuel pump device.
