Test A: Lock System Does Not Unlock
NOTE:
When replacing ignition key, verify if vehicle is equipped with PASS-KEY II(R). If vehicle is equipped with PASS-KEY II(R), new ignition key will need to be programmed. See ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - CAMARO & FIREBIRD article.
- Review steering wheel and column description and operation. See DESCRIPTION & OPERATION . After review, go to next step.
- Using ignition key, verify lock system does not unlock. If lock system is not operating correctly, go to next step. If lock system is operating correctly, system is okay at this time.
- Inspect for an incorrect, worn or damaged ignition key. If ignition key is correct and not worn or damaged, go to next step. If ignition key is incorrect, worn or damaged, go to step 6 .
- Inspect for faulty lock cylinder. If lock cylinder is not faulty, go to next step. If lock cylinder is faulty, go to step 7 .
- Inspect ignition switch assembly for damage. If ignition switch assembly is not damaged, go to next step. If ignition switch assembly is damaged, go to step 8 .
- Replace ignition key, then go to step 9 .
- Replace lock cylinder, then go to step 9 .
- Replace ignition switch assembly, then go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step 3 .
