Diagnostic Procedures
- Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check-Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Install a scan tool. Idle the engine for 2 minutes. Does the scan tool indicate that DTC P0341 failed this ignition cycle? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Inspect all circuits going to the camshaft position sensor for incorrect harness routing:
- Routing that is too close to the secondary ignition wires or too close to the components.
- Routing that is too close to any aftermarket add-on electrical equipment.
- Routing that is too close to the solenoids, the relays, and the motors.
If you find incorrect routing, correct the harness routing. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step 8. If no, go to next step.
- Inspect for a poor connection at the PCM. If you find a poor connection, repair the connection as necessary. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step 8. If no, go to next step.
- Remove the intake manifold. Inspect for a poor connection at the CMP sensor. If you find a poor connection repair the connection as necessary. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step 8. If no, go to next step.
- Remove the CMP sensor. Inspect the CMP drive gear for damage. Is the CMP drive gear damaged? If yes, replace camshaft. See appropriate article in ENGINES. If no, go to next step.
- Replace the CMP sensor. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. After repairs, go to next step.
- Clear the DTCs with a scan tool. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds. Start the engine. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running DTC. Does the DTC run and pass? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 2.
- Observe the stored information, Capture Info with a scan tool. Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
NOTE:
If there are any other CMP DTCs set, diagnose those DTCs first. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
