- Using a flat head screwdriver, pry the lock button of the park lock cable into the UNLOCKED position (1). Install the park lock cable at the shift control assembly.
- With the shift control assembly in Park position and the ignition key in RUN position, snap the park lock cable into the inhibitor housing. Turn the ignition key to the LOCK position.
- Snap the cable end onto the pin of the transmission gearshift lever (4). Push the park lock cable toward the gearshift lever assembly in order to remove the slack. Push the lock button on the park lock cable down into the LOCKED position.
- Inspect the park lock cable as follows:
- With the gearshift lever in Park position and the ignition key in the LOCK position, ensure the gearshift lever cannot move to another position. The ignition key should be removable from the lock cylinder.
- Turn the ignition key to RUN position and move the gearshift lever to Neutral position.
- Ensure the ignition key cannot be turned to the LOCK position. If the above checks are okay, proceed to next step. If the above checks are not okay, readjust the park lock cable.
- Raise the steering column and install the 4 bolts. See appropriate STEERING COLUMNS article in STEERING. Install the console trim plate. See CONSOLE TRIM PLATE .
- Install the left closeout insulator panel. See LEFT SIDE INSULATOR PANEL . Secure the left front carpet.
NOTE:
Do not attach the cable end to the pin on the control lever. Do not attempt to perform this step with the ignition key in any other position except RUN.
