Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Aztek and 2003 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Apply GM P/N United States 12346004, GM P/N Canada 10953480 or equivalent to the coolant heater seal and the coolant heater hole.
  2. Ensure that the coolant heater element is horizontal and pointed toward the front of the engine.

    The 3 o'clock position (2) is DESIRED.

    The 2 o'clock position (1) and the 4 o'clock position (3) are acceptable.

  3. Install the coolant heater.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Install the coolant heater bolt.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolt to 2 N.m (18 lb. in).

    NOTE: The heater cord must not touch the engine, hot pipes, manifold, or any moving parts. Route the cord to the left front of the engine compartment securing with tie straps as necessary to prevent damage.
  5. Install the engine coolant heater cord to the engine coolant heater.
  6. Install the right engine splash shield. Refer to SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT - ENGINE in Body Front End.
  7. Install the right front wheel. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION in Tires and Wheels.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Fill the engine cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM  .
