Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform powertrain diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select chassis application. Attempt to display ABS data on scan tool. If ABS data be displayed, go to next step. If ABS data cannot be displayed, go to step  4.
  3. Check serial data circuit for open or poor connection between PCM and EBCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary. Recheck for DTCs. If no DTCs are displayed, system is okay. If DTCs are displayed, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EBCM harness connector (located behind left side of dash, near steering column). Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, check between ground and EBCM harness connector terminal C8 (Light Blue wire). If voltage varies within 1-5 volts, go to next step. If voltage does not vary within 1-5 volts, go to step  6.
  5. Turn ignition off. Check for poor connection at EBCM harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  7. If connections are okay, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off. Check for open in Light Blue wire to EBCM. Repair as necessary. Reconnect EBCM harness connector. After repairs, go to next step. If circuit is okay, diagnose ABS system. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
  7. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, attempt to display ABS data. If ABS data can be displayed and if no DTCs are displayed, system is okay. If ABS data cannot be displayed, go to step  4.
