WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 GMC Savana Special, 2002 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2002 GMC Savana, and 2002 Chevrolet Chevy Express. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Under pressure, the temperature of the solution in the radiator can be considerably higher, without boiling. Removing the radiator cap while the engine is hot (pressure is high), will cause the solution to boil instantaneously, with explosive force. The solution will spew out over the engine, fenders, and the person removing the cap. Serious bodily injury may result. Flammable antifreeze, such as alcohol, is not recommended for use at any time. Flammable antifreeze could cause a serious fire.
  1. Install a suitable length of hose on the drain cock nipple.
  2. Place a drain pan under the radiator drain cock hose.
  3. After the engine cools down, remove the radiator cap.
  4. If equipped with diesel engine, using a 1/4 inch drive extension, partially open the radiator drain cock (2) in order to drain the coolant from the radiator.
  5. Completely open and remove the drain cock from the radiator.
  6. If equipped with gas engine, turn the drain cock (1) until the metal pin on the drain cock is aligned with the opening slot.
  7. Pull the drain cock out of the radiator.
