Spark Plug Wire: Removal

  1. Disconnect the spark plug wire at each spark plug. See Figure . Twist the boots 1/2 turn before removing the boots. Pull only on the boot or use a tool designed for this purpose in order to remove the wire from each spark plug.
  2. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the distributor. Twist each spark plug boot 1/2 turn. Pull only on the boot or use a tool designed for this purpose in order to remove the wires from the distributor. Inspect the spark plug boot for damage. Inspect the spark plug recess area of the cylinder head for moisture, such as oil, coolant, or water. A spark plug boot that is saturated causes arcing to ground.
