Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Aztek and 2004 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: To prevent internal damage to the flexible coupling of the catalytic converter assembly, the converter must be supported. The vertical movement at the rear of the catalytic converter assembly must not exceed 6 degrees up or down.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Use a utility stand in order to support the catalytic converter.

  4. Remove the catalytic converter bolts.
  5. Remove the catalytic converter gasket.

  7. Remove the exhaust hanger insulators from the muffler.
  8. If the vehicle is equipped with All-Wheel-Drive (AWD), use a utility stand in order to support and lower the crossmember. Refer to Crossmember Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
  9. Remove the muffler towards the front of the vehicle.
  10. Clean the catalytic converter flange and the muffler flange.
