Test C: Heated Seat Inoperative

  1. If power seat/heated seats systems diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If power seat/heated seats systems diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to POWER SEAT/HEATED SEATS SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Start engine and allow to idle. Activate driver and passenger heated seats. If seats do not heat up, go to next step. If seats heat up, concern may be intermittent. For aid in diagnosing intermittent concerns, see PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS  under INTERMITTENTS.
  3. If heat seat switch indicators do not illuminate when activated, go to next step. If heat seat switch indicators illuminate when activated, go to step  5 .
  4. Using test light connected to battery voltage, probe heated seat switch harness connector terminal "B" (Black wire). See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to step  8 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step  10 .
  5. Disconnect heated seat relay module harness connector. Heated seat relay modules are located under appropriate seat. Using test light connected to ground, probe inoperative heated seat relay module harness connector terminals "D" (Light Blue wire) and "E" (Light Blue/Black wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Activate heated seat switch. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  13 .
  6. Using test light connected to ground, probe inoperative heated seat relay module harness connector terminal X1 (Orange wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  11 .
  7. Using test light connected to battery voltage, probe inoperative heated seat relay module harness connector terminal X4. If test light illuminates, go to step  9 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step  12 .
  8. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in heated seat switch harness connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  16 . If no problem is found, go to step  14 .
  9. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in heated seat cushion and back harness connectors. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  16 . If no problem is found, go to step  15 .
  10. Repair open in Black wire between ground and heated seat switch harness connector terminal "B". See Figure . Ground point is located on under right side of instrument panel, on cross beam behind glove box. After repairs are made, go to step  16 .
  11. Repair open or short to ground in Orange wire between center console fuse block harness connector C2 terminal C4 and appropriate heated seat relay module harness connector terminal X1. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repairs are made, go to step  16 .
  12. Repair open in ground circuit of heated seat relay module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Driver's seat ground point is located on left "B" pillar, under seat belt anchor. Passenger's seat ground point is located on right "B" pillar, under seat belt anchor. After repairs are made, go to step  16 .
  13. Repair open in appropriate heated seat switch signal circuit to heat seat relay module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repairs are made, go to step  16 .
  14. Replace heated seat switch. See HEATED SEAT SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step  16 .
  15. Replace heated seat cushion and/or seat back. See HEATED SEAT CUSHION HEATER ELEMENT/MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  16. Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step  3 .
