  1. If theft deterrent diagnostic systems check has been performed, go to next step. If theft deterrent diagnostic systems check has not been performed, go to THEFT DETERRENT DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, command security indicator LED on. If security indicator LED does not illuminate, go to next step. If security indicator LED illuminates, concern may be intermittent. For aid in diagnosing intermittent problems. See PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS  under INTERMITTENTS.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 24-pin harness connector C1. BCM is located behind right center console access panel, inside of console, attached to center console fuse block. Connect a fused (3-amp) jumper wire between ground and BCM harness connector C1 terminal B4 (Yellow wire). See Figure. If security indicator LED does not illuminate, go to next step. If security indicator LED illuminates, go to step  6.
  4. Disconnect security 2-pin harness connector. Security LED is located in upper instrument panel trim panel. Using a test light connected to ground, probe security indicator harness connector terminal "A" (Yellow wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  8.
  5. Check for open or short to voltage in Yellow wire between BCM harness connector C1 terminal B4 and security indicator harness connector terminal "A". If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  11. If no problem is found, go to step  7.
  6. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in BCM harness connectors. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  11. If no problem is found, go to step  9.
  7. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in security indicator LED harness connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  11. If no problem is found, go to step  10.
  8. Repair open or short to ground in Orange wire between security indicator harness connector terminal "B" and underhood fuse block harness connector C1 terminal A10. See Figure. After repairs are made, go to step  11.
  9. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in BODY CONTROL MODULES - AZTEK article. After repairs are made, go to step  11.
  10. Replace security indicator LED. See SECURITY INDICATOR LED  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  11. Check system for proper operation. If system operates properly, test is complete. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2.
