DTC B3055: Key Not Present: Testing

  1. If theft deterrent diagnostic systems check has been performed, go to next step. If theft deterrent diagnostic systems check has not been performed, go to THEFT DETERRENT DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel. Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTCs function and retrieve any BCM DTCs. If DTC B3055 is retrieved as current, go to next step. If DTC B3055 is not retrieved as current, concern may be intermittent. For aid in diagnosing intermittent problems. See PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS  under INTERMITTENTS.
  3. Check vehicle key for damaged to molded head. Ensure that key is valid PASS-Key®III key. If key is valid and not damaged, go to next step. If key is not valid and/or damaged, go to step  7.
  4. If one or more master keys are available, go to next step. If master key is not available, go to step  7.
  5. Using scan tool, clear any DTCs. Attempt to start vehicle using all available keys. Using scan tool, observe any DTCs which set during each starting attempt. If any available key starts vehicle, go to next step. If available keys do not start vehicle, go to step  9.
  6. If available keys do not set DTC B3055, go to next step. If all available keys set DTC B3055, go to step  9.
  7. Replace damaged or suspect key, with a correct mechanically cut PASS-Key III replacement key. If a learned master key is available, perform adding keys procedure. See ADDING KEYS  under PROGRAMMING. If a learned master key is not available, go to REPLACING KEYS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After key replacement is complete, go to next step.
  8. If replacement key causes DTC B3055 to set, go to next step. If replacement key does not cause DTC B3055 to set, go to step  10.
  9. NOTE: If a 10 minute or 30 minute re-learn procedure is performed, all keys not learned at that time will be erased and will not be recognized. Perform adding keys procedure on all keys or instruct customer as to how to perform adding keys procedure. See ADDING KEYS  under PROGRAMMING.
  10. Replace theft deterrent control module. See THEFT DETERRENT CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using scan tool, perform SET UP NEW VTD MODULE procedure from vehicle theft deterrent, special functions data list. Perform PROGRAMMING THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM COMPONENTS  procedure under PROGRAMMING. After module replacement is complete, go to next step.
  11. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle through code enable criteria. If DTC does not reset, system is okay at this time. If DTC resets, go to step  2.
