Test B: Washers Inoperative

  1. If wiper/washer system description has been reviewed, go to next step. If wiper/washer system description has not been reviewed. See DESCRIPTION  .
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Activate windshield wiper/washer switch through all wipe and wash positions. If wiper/washers do not operate normally, go to next step. If wiper/washers operate normally, problem may be intermittent. Check for poor or intermittent condition. See PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS  under INTERMITTENTS.
  3. Disconnect windshield washer pump 2-pin harness connector. Connect test light between windshield washer pump harness connector terminals "A" (Red wire) and "B" (Black wire). Activate windshield washer switch. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  10 .
  4. Using a test light connect between ground and windshield washer pump harness connector terminal "A" (Red wire). Activate windshield washer switch. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  10 .
  5. Check for open or short to ground in Red wire between windshield washer pump harness connector terminal "A" and windshield wiper/washer switch harness connector terminal "J". If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  11 .
  6. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in windshield wiper/washer switch harness connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  11 . If no problem is found, go to step  9 .
  7. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in windshield washer pump motor harness connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  11 . If no problem is found, go to step  10 .
  8. Repair open in Black wire between ground and windshield washer pump motor harness connector terminal "B". Ground point is located under right side of instrument panel on cross beam behind glove box. After repairs are made, go to step  11 .
  9. Replace windshield wiper/washer switch. See WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  10. Replace washer pump. See WASHER PUMP  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  11. Check washer system for proper operation. Perform SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If system operates normally, test is complete. If system does not operate normally, go to step  3 .
