Test F: Lock System Does Not Lock

  1. After reviewing ignition lock system description perform PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. After performing preliminary inspection, go to next step.
  2. If lock system does not operate normally, go to next step. If lock system operates normally, system is okay.
  3. Check for incorrect, worn or damaged keys. If all keys are okay, go to next step. If keys are not okay, go to step  9 .
  4. Check for faulty lock cylinders. If lock cylinders are not damaged, go to next step. If any lock cylinder is damaged, go to step  10 .
  5. Check shift linkage adjustment. See appropriate TRANSMISSION SERVICING - A/T article in AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE. If shift linkage is adjusted properly, go to next step. If shift linkage is out of adjustment, go to step  11 .
  6. Check automatic transmission shift lock control adjustment. See appropriate TRANSMISSION SERVICING - A/T article in AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE. If shift lock has proper adjustment, go to next step. If shift lock is not adjusted properly, go to step  12 .
  7. Check ignition switch assembly for damage. If ignition switch assembly is not damaged, go to next step. If ignition switch assembly is damaged, go to step  13 .
  8. Check park lock for damage and cycle manual override. If park lock is not damaged, go to step  3 . If park lock is damaged, go to step  14 .
  9. Replace ignition key. Ensure key is same mechanical cut as original key. After repairs are made, go to step  15 .
  10. Replace ignition lock cylinder. See IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step  15 .
  11. Adjust shift linkage. See appropriate TRANSMISSION SERVICING - A/T article in AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE. After repairs are made, go to step  15 .
  12. Replace automatic transmission shift lock control. See appropriate TRANSMISSION SERVICING - A/T article in AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE. After repairs are made, go to step  15 .
  13. Replace ignition switch. See IGNITION SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step  15 .
  14. Replace park pawl actuator. See PARK PAWL ACTUATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  15. Operate lock system to verify repairs. If lock system operates normally, testing is complete. If lock system does not operate normally, go to step  3 .
