Test 2: Wipers Operate With Switch Off
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Set wiper switch to OFF position. Disconnect wiper switch 5-pin connector (near base of steering column). If wiper motor continues to run, go to next step. If wiper motor does not run, check for shorted wires in wiper switch pigtail (wires between wiper switch and connector). Repair as necessary. If wires are okay, replace wiper switch assembly. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - CAMARO & FIREBIRD article.
- Measure voltage at terminal "E" (Dark Green wire) of wiper switch connector C215. If one volt or more exists, go to next step. If less than one volt exists, go to step 4 .
- Reconnect wiper switch connector. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Measure voltage at terminal "D" (Dark Green wire) of wiper motor connector. If less than one volt exists, replace wiper motor cover (circuit board). See WIPER MOTOR COVER (CIRCUIT BOARD) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If one volt or more exists, repair short to battery voltage in Dark Green wire between wiper motor connector terminal "D" and wiper switch connector terminal "E". See WIRING DIAGRAMS
- Measure voltage at terminal "F" (Gray wire) of wiper switch connector C215. If less than one volt exists, go to step 6 . If one volt or more exists, go to next step.
- Reconnect wiper switch connector. Disconnect wiper motor 5-pin connector. Measure voltage at terminal "E" (Gray wire) of wiper motor connector. See Figure . If less than one volt exists, replace wiper motor cover (circuit board). See WIPER MOTOR COVER (CIRCUIT BOARD) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If one volt or more exists, repair short to battery voltage in Gray wire between wiper motor connector terminal "E" and wiper switch connector terminal "F". See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Reconnect wiper switch connector. Disconnect wiper motor 5-pin connector. Measure voltage at terminal "C" (Purple wire) of wiper motor connector. See Figure . If less than one volt exists, replace wiper motor cover (circuit board). See WIPER MOTOR COVER (CIRCUIT BOARD) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If one volt or more exists, repair short to battery voltage in Purple wire between wiper motor connector terminal "C" and wiper switch connector terminal "G". See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
