Code 03 Or 04, Outside Air Temperature Sensor Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme and 1996 Buick Regal. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Unplug outside air temperature sensor connector. Outside air temperature sensor is located on center radiator support. Turn ignition on. Set A/C-heater control to AUTO mode. Measure voltage at Light Green/Black wire terminal of outside air temperature sensor connector.
  2. If voltage is 5 volts, go to next step. If Code 03 is set and voltage is not 5 volts, check for shorted Light Green/Black wire. If Code 04 is set, check for short to voltage or open Light Green/Black wire. If wire is okay, replace A/C-heater control unit.
  3. Measure voltage between Light Green/Black wire and Brown wire at sensor connector. If voltage is not 5 volts, check and/or repair open Brown wire. If voltage is 5 volts, check A/C control unit connectors. Clean or repair connectors as necessary. If connectors are okay, replace outside air temperature sensor.
