Engine Does Not Crank, Passkey/Security Indicator Illuminates
FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS, THEN GOES OUT
- Place gear selector in Park. Turn ignition switch to START position. Using DVOM, measure voltage between starter solenoid terminal "S" (Purple wire) and ground. If voltage is less than 9.5 volts, go to step 3). If voltage is more than 9.5 volts, go to next step.
- Connect a remote starter switch between starter solenoid terminal "S" (Purple wire) and battery. Crank starter. If starter does not crank, replace starter solenoid. If starter cranks, check for high resistance or poor connections in starter circuit. Repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition switch to START position. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ignition switch Yellow wire terminal and ground. If voltage is more than 9.5 volts, go to step 5). If voltage is less than 9.5 volts, go to next step.
- Using DVOM, measure voltage between ignition switch Red wire terminal and ground. If voltage is more than 9.5 volts, check for poor connections at ignition switch. If connections are okay, replace ignition switch. If voltage is less than 9.5 volts, check for open in Red wire or 40-amp IGN SW1 maxi-fuse located in underhood electrical center No. 2 in left side of engine compartment. Repair or replace as necessary.
- Disconnect theft deterrent relay connector. Turn ignition switch to START position. Using DVOM, measure voltage between theft deterrent relay connector terminal A2 (Yellow wire) and ground. If voltage is more than 9.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 9.5 volts, repair open in Yellow wire between theft deterrent relay and ignition switch.
- Connect test light between theft deterrent relay connector terminal C2 (Yellow wire) and ground. Observe test light and turn ignition switch to START position. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 8). If test light illuminates, connect test light between theft deterrent relay connector A1 (Yellow/Black wire) and battery voltage. Observe test light and turn ignition switch to START position.
- If test light illuminates, check for poor connections at theft deterrent relay. If connections are okay, replace theft deterrent relay. If test light does not illuminate, check for open or short to voltage in Yellow/Black wire between theft deterrent relay and theft deterrent module. Check for poor connections at theft deterrent module. If Yellow/Black wire and connections are okay, replace theft deterrent module.
- Disconnect transaxle range switch connector. Connect test light between transaxle range switch connector terminal "E" (Purple wire) and ground. Observe test light and turn ignition switch to START position. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, check for open or high resistance in Yellow wire between transaxle range switch and theft deterrent relay. If Yellow wire is okay, adjust or replace transaxle range switch.
- Connect test light between ground and 5-amp fuse No. 11 terminal B7 (Yellow wire) located in fuse block in right side of dash, in door opening. Observe test light and turn ignition switch to START position. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Yellow wire between fuse block, ignition switch and theft deterrent relay. If test light illuminates, check for poor connections in Yellow wire between transaxle range switch and theft deterrent relay. If connections are okay, repair open in fuse No. 11 or Purple wire between transaxle range switch and fuse block.
