OPTI-Spark Distributor Cap, Cover, Rotor & Base Assembly (5.7L): Removal

  1. Drain cooling system. Remove water pump assembly. See WATER PUMP under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ENGINE article.
  2. Remove crankshaft balancer assembly. See CRANKSHAFT BALANCER PULLEY ASSEMBLY & HUB under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ENGINE article.
  3. Remove spark plug wire harness assemblies from distributor assembly.
  4. Remove four-terminal PCM connector from distributor assembly.
    5. NOTE: Do not allow foreign material to enter open vacuum lines or cap ends.
  5. Remove vacuum harness assembly from distributor assembly
  6. Remove distributor cap bolts/screws (29) using ignition distributor cap socket (J 39997) or equivalent. See Figure. Remove distributor cap (30).
  7. Remove rotor bolts/screws (31) using using ignition distributor rotor tool (J 39998) or equivalent. See Figure.
    8. NOTE: Do not touch timing disk sensor or distributor base.
  8. Remove rotor assembly (32). Distributor cover (33) and shield (34). See Figure.
