OPTI-Spark Distributor Cap, Cover, Rotor & Base Assembly (5.7L): Removal
- Drain cooling system. Remove water pump assembly. See WATER PUMP under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ENGINE article.
- Remove crankshaft balancer assembly. See CRANKSHAFT BALANCER PULLEY ASSEMBLY & HUB under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ENGINE article.
- Remove spark plug wire harness assemblies from distributor assembly.
- Remove four-terminal PCM connector from distributor assembly.
- Remove vacuum harness assembly from distributor assembly
- Remove distributor cap bolts/screws (29) using ignition distributor cap socket (J 39997) or equivalent. See Figure. Remove distributor cap (30).
- Remove rotor bolts/screws (31) using using ignition distributor rotor tool (J 39998) or equivalent. See Figure.
- Remove rotor assembly (32). Distributor cover (33) and shield (34). See Figure.
NOTE:
Do not allow foreign material to enter open vacuum lines or cap ends.
NOTE:
Do not touch timing disk sensor or distributor base.
