OPTI-Spark Distributor Assembly (5.7L): Removal
NOTE:
For component identification in removal procedure. Refer to illustration. See Fig 1. Do not allow foreign material to enter open vacuum lines or cap ends.
- Check distributor assembly ventilation system for proper operation. See DISTRIBUTOR ASSEMBLY VENTILATION SYSTEM CHECKING .
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Disconnect Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor harness connector. Remove air intake duct. Remove serpentine belt. Remove coolant hoses to water pump assembly. Disconnect coolant temperature sensor harness connector.
- Remove water pump assembly. See WATER PUMP under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ENGINE article.
- Remove crankshaft balancer assembly. See CRANKSHAFT BALANCER PULLEY ASSEMBLY & HUB under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ENGINE article.
- Remove serpentine belt tensioner.
- Remove spark plug wire harness assemblies from distributor assembly (1). See SPARK PLUG WIRE HARNESS ASSEMBLY (OPTI-SPARK) .
- Disconnect four-terminal PCM connector from distributor assembly. Disconnect vacuum harness assembly (29) from distributor assembly (1). See Figure. Remove distributor bolts/screws (3). Distributor assembly (1). Pull distributor assembly forward until driveshaft disengages from end of camshaft assembly. Mark top surface of distributor shaft for reassembly purposes.
- Remove distributor bolts/screws. When removing distributor assembly, pull distributor assembly forward until driveshaft disengages from end of camshaft assembly. See Fig 1. Mark top surface of distributor shaft for reassembly purposes.
NOTE:
Make sure all coolant has been wiped off distributor and surrounding area before disconnecting any electrical connectors or spark plug wire harness assemblies.
